QUESTION: When I write to a boxing star, how can I increase my chances of getting a response?
ANSWER: Keep your letters brief & to the point.
QUESTION: What types of boxing memorabilia can I send to be autographed?
ANSWER: You can send almost anything to be autographed! Flat items are the most economical, but you can send larger items, as well. Here are a few ideas: Ticket stubs, photos, index cards, etc.
QUESTION: Is it necessary to include a self-addressed stamped envelope when requesting boxing autographs?
ANSWER: Absolutely. More often than not - no SASE (self-addressed stamped envelope) means no response.
QUESTION: How long will it be before I get a response or boxing autograph?
ANSWER: Response times vary depending on the athlete themselves, their schedules and time of year. If it’s boxing season, for example, it may take a little longer to get that autograph from your favorite boxing star. If you are a through-the-mail autograph collector, there are a few possible responses that you may receive. These include: authentic, secretarial, pre-print or autopen signatures. The best way to explain a pre-print signature is that an athlete may sign one photo and then have copies of the real autograph made and send that copied photo out to fans.
There are many venues to purchase photos - many are listed online. Many times, the athletes are happy to provide their own photo if you ask them to do so.
QUESTION: Where can I find the home, or email, address of my favorite boxing star?
Requesting autographs via e-mail is becoming more popular, but it requires that the athlete pay for postage and, therefore, is not always an effective way of getting autographs.
ANSWER: Sure - politely ask the athlete for his/her autograph. If it’s a rare item, hold on to it until an in-person autograph opportunity arises.
QUESTION: I work for a charitable organization. Can I request donations in the form of boxing autographs for my cause?
ANSWER: If you want to request an autograph to be used for any type of charity, send your request on official company letterhead. Be upfront & completely honest with the athlete - if you plan to sell the autograph to benefit your cause, tell them. Many celebrities are happy to help with a variety of causes - especially if all you are asking for is an autograph.
Boxing Hall of Fame History & Gift Shop
In 1982, Canastota, NY residents chose to honor Carmen Basilio, one-time welterweight and middleweight champion, and his nephew Billy Backus, 1970 welterweight title holder. It was this single project that sparked the enthusiasm needed to explore the possibility of creating boxing’s inaugural hall of fame and museum. In 1989, the project was completed with two dozen former boxing champions on hand.
The International Boxing Hall of Fame held it’s ribbon cutting ceremony on what is a major tourist attraction to this day. Among them, legendary boxing great, Muhammad Ali. Since that time, the International Boxing Hall of Fame has added an additional wing to the museum and an event pavilion, which sits adjacent to the hall. Each year, in early June, the International Boxing Hall of Fame holds it’s annual induction ceremony to highlight the four-day celebration of the sport of boxing and it’s legendary athletes.
One of the most impressive aspects of the International Boxing Hall of Fame is it’s memorabilia shop, which offers a rare opportunity for autograph collectors to own some amazing items. Everything from autographed boxing gloves to a post, robe or speed bag is available for purchase. The Everlast boxing robe, which sells for $275.00, features 23 autographs and is available through the International Boxing Hall of Fame’s website.
For additional information or to place an order, collectors may write to: Boxing Hall of Fame, 1 Hall of Fame Drive, Canastota, NY 13032. The International Boxing Hall of Fame can be accessed online at ibhof.com.

Sports Boxing an All-time Crowd Puller
By Andy Subandono

- Sports Boxing
Boxing is a sport that’s admired throughout the world. Sports boxing is bound to keep you nailed to your seat till the end of the game. This form of the sport requires extensive physical training. Boxing caters to diverse genres of people. There are people who just track the sport for the sheer techniques implicated in the game, while others keep up-to-date with the sport for the larger-than-life people and the different hullabaloos and events that constantly spin around the boxing world.
Boxers are demanded to be extremely fit and strong that is why training plays a vital role. Boxing drills should have precise targets that you can punch at full speed. A human partner helps in learning the punch at right moments than a punching bag.
A. Boxing Through The Ages
There is proof that the Greeks took part in boxing events. Of course, it was not referred to as boxing, but it was the first competitive fighting event where fighters wore gloves. They were not padded as we see in our more modern boxing matches. The term boxing was derived to create a difference between competitive fighting, and fighting as a result of a problem between two or more people.
Currently, boxing as we know it, is a match between two people dressed in gloves, and proper protective gear. There are very specific rules and goals to be followed in the ring where the boxing match occurs.
Boxing has been primarily a man’s sport, although there is evidence of female fighters as far back as the eighteenth century. It used to be solely a competitive sport rather than a leisurely one. Nowadays, people are taking interest in boxing for its physical benefits as a prime consideration.
Since the nineteenth century, boxing has stayed relatively the same. But we have seen the development of new and different competitive fighting organizations and sports. There’s Kung Fu, Judo, kickboxing, mixed martial arts fighting, wrestling, and many more to consider. What we have witnessed as a result is that far less people are choosing boxing, creating a decline in the number of competitive boxers out there.
What has not changed is boxing as a form of entertainment. Out of all fighting sports, boxing matches still bring in some of the largest audiences. Interest in matches hasn’t waned much, even if interest in practicing the art is on the decline.
B. Looking At Sports Boxing For Your Children
Even while parents are eager to get their children engaged in beneficial sporting activities, at the same time parents are concerned about safety issues and this is particularly true when they consider the possibility of sports boxing for their child.
But, sports boxing is really like any other sport as far as safety goes. With proper safety equipment, the right instruction and careful supervision by well-trained instructors and coaches, this activity offers a good positive learning environment and much of the potential for risk of injury can be significantly reduced.
With those things in mind and in place, the risk of injury in sports boxing is not any higher than it would be in any of the other popular sports that you child might participate in such as hockey, track, gymnastics or football.
One of the most important aspects of being sure that your child has a good and safe experience with any sport, and sports boxing in particular, is parental involvement and preparation. Sports boxing helps to instill confidence and self-esteem in the child, which many consider to be the most important benefit. When children are committed to a regular training schedule, especially one that is supervised and structured, kids have an opportunity to work out their frustrations and aggressions.
When searching for such a sporting program for your child, it is important to seek out a good coach who emphasizes sportsmanship and self-development over competitiveness. Sports boxing can be a very rewarding experience for your child. It helps to increase athleticism, builds sportsmanship and develops self-worth.
Aside from some of the reservations people have about introducing their child to boxing, it continues to be one of the more effective confidence boosting activities that your child can participate in.
